Dry-roast uncooked brown rice over medium flame for 10 minutes or until a fragrant aroma develops. Stir and shake pan occasionally to prevent burning. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons rice to 11/2 quarts spring water. Bring to a boil, reduce flame, and simmer 10 to 15 minutes.
Variation: Teas may be made from other whole grains in this way.
Barley is supposed to be good for melting animal fat from the body and aids in the reduction of fever. [Barley is not gluten free!]
